Basket-Ursli

Basket-Ursli is inspired by the Swiss children’s book “Schellen-Ursli,” which tells of a young boy’s adventure to find a large cowbell in his family’s Alpine chalet for the spring procession. I especially like the illustration in which Ursli wears the large bell like a crossbody bag. The bell-making process seemed surprisingly similar to bag making. I replaced sheet metal with felt and welding with rivets while retaining the pattern of a traditional cowbell. The handle strap includes a decorative detail recalling the embroidered fringe straps of cowbells. This Swiss cowbell-inspired felt basket makes a fitting souvenir for travelers because it is light and unbreakable. It can also be used as everyday storage with a subtle hint of Switzerland.
