Emille Bell

The Bell of King Seongdeok, also known as the Emille Bell, dates to 771 CE and is associated with the myth of a child sacrificed for the bell. Casting the ancient bronze bell with its beautiful sound was an extraordinarily difficult task at which many generations had failed. Our object draws inspiration from this myth. Rather than directly depicting the bell, it represents the void left by its absence. The bell’s inverted space is made accessible—visually and tactilely—and serves as a tribute to the child.

Diaspora Dreams is an architecture and design studio based in Oslo and Zurich. Established in 2023, the studio designs thoroughly and thoughtfully across cultures. As cities, buildings, furniture, and objects increasingly tend to look alike, the specificity of things—rather than the generic—is what interests the studio.
